Lead Singer, Jensen, talks about his latest CD as simply - “It’s the best definition of Showbread”. Since Showbread has erupted a few years ago, no one has simply been able to define their sound of music, energy and style. Showbread began describing themselves as “Raw Rock” since early in their career. When the first dissonant chord of the opening track “I’m Lost” rings out, it’s easy to assume Jensen is telling the truth, this is pure Raw Rock. The tracks are very honest, danceable and sassy. We have been around Showbread for sometime, since they played our Cornerstone Stage in 2004 at Cornerstone wearing their red pants and black shirts. This latest CD has shown great maturity in the band but doesn’t let the fans down, the CD is available just about anywhere from your local Christian Bookstore to the Hot Topic at the Mall, but we give you the chance to hear it first on this weeks episode of the Rock for Life Netcast.

"The last time I can remember a romantic comedy with a real, relatable, capable-of-growth, possessing-an-inner-life heroine (albeit a quirky, eccentric one) was Juno. And that was wrapped in a creepily-anti choice, pro-female self-sacrifice plot structure which made the film a mixed bag for feminists. It was almost as if a three-dimensional female protagonist was only allowed through the gates of existence by doing penance--fulfilling the conservative fantasy of the willing baby-giving-up teen mom--within her film's storyline."

News & Commentary:

Last week saw hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers nationwide take part in marches and vigils remembering the lives lost through abortion.  The largest one - the annual March for Life - brought a massive crowd to Washington, D.C. only two days after 2 million individuals packed the city for the Inauguration of President Barack Obama.

San Francisco was host to another large march, as over 30,000 pro-life advocates took part in the fifth annual Walk for Life West Coast.  The WFLWC crowd increases with each passing year, and the number of counter-protesters in the city known for its abortion advocacy has dwindled from 5,000 to 100.  In fact, two of the three cities that have passed resolutions declaring themselves "pro-choice cities" are near San Francisco – Santa Cruz and Berkeley.  The third, West Hollywood, is in Los Angeles.

We have a new president, and he has wasted no time in making sure that Planned Parenthood's wish list is fulfilled.  He struck down the Mexico City Policy, which states that an organization must "agree as a condition of their receipt of federal funds" that they would "neither perform nor actively promote abortion as a method of family planning in other nations."  This means we are all supporting – via tax dollars – the killing of preborn children in other nations.

Congresswoman and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said something interesting about population control being cheaper in the end run...we dissect her comments.

News & Commentary

The Planned Parenthood Federation of America has seen  sharp downturn in donations, and recently was forced to make staff cuts.  Approximately 30 people (20% of the staff) in their New York City headquarters were laid off.  Much of the decrease comes as a results of the Bernie Madoff investment scam, because the Picower Foundation - a major donor to abortion advocacy groups - shut down in December because their financial assets were managed by Madoff.

A UK mother is making international news for her refusal to abort her conjoined twins.  The 25 year old Lisa Chamberlain called her children a "gift from God" and told the London Telegraph that "Some might think my twins are strange, but to me they're just special..."

The vice president of Spain's ruling Socialist Worker's Party, Jose Blanco, was shown a late-term abortion on live TV during an interview on Intereconomia TV.  After viewing the graphic footage, blanco appeared visibly disturbed and said "I am against abortion.  Abortion is an exceptional situation," but then went on to defend it by claiming he just wanted to protect women and doctors.  The abortion rate in Spain is extremely high, despite widespread contraception use and the government offering to pay for abortions; two things abortion advocates claim will reduce the rate.  Some interesting statistics:

  • Abortion legalized in Spain in 1985

  • 1995 - 49,000 abortions

  • 2004 - 85,000 abortions

  • 2007 - over 100,000 abortions

  • contraceptive use increased 60% since 1997

  • morning after pill introduced in 2000, and use has risen 67% since

A 22 year-old woman from San Diego is auctioning off her virginity.  Bids reached well over $3 million, and the young woman hopes to use the money to pay for an advanced degree in family and marriage therapy.  She claims she got the idea from her sister, who prosituted herself for three weeks to pay for college as well.

The Christian Defense Coalition had planned on chalking pro-life messages on the sidewalk in front of the White House on January 24th, but the Washington D.C. police put a damper on their plans.  The police claimed it "...would constitute defacing public property in violation of D.C. Official Code."  It should be noted that the city of Washington, D.C. has sponsored sidewalk chalk art displays in the past.

Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood (based in Albany, NY) has announced it will be closing one of its clinics in Latham, NY due to financial reasoning.  This clinic performed medical abortions, and we congratulate the hard work of local pro-life activists who have been combating Planned Parenthood's influence in New York's Capital Region for years.

Two ambulance workers were arrested in the UK after they were accidentally recorded talking about how they didn't see a reason to revive adisabled  59-year-old heart attack victim.  The man had dropped his phone after collapsing, and the medical response teammates were reportedly heard discussing how they planned to just say he died before they got to the scene.

Brian "Head" Welch, former guitarist for he band Korn, released a CD containing a strong pro-life message.  Welch quit the band in 2003 after converting to Christianity, and has since moved on to a solo project.  He's admitted to being OK with abortion years ago, and how he and his girlfriend almost aborted their child, but changed their mind last minute inside the abortion mill, giving their baby up for adoption.  RFLer Keith Ashley covers this in depth here on the RFL blog.

News & Commentary

On this issue of the Rock for Life Podcast Ashley from RFL Delaware joins Erik and Phil to engage in some lively banter over Planned Parenthood's 55-page wish list to the Obama administration.  On their end, the Obama team is holding small meetings all across the country to get input from ordinary citizens on health care concerns.  Ashley and Phil report back on the meeting they attended, and as part of the efforts to defeat Planned Parenthood, we are encouraging as many of you as possible to attend one of these meetings in your area and voice your opposition to the Freedom of Choice Act and all of the PP agenda.

You can find out about the meetings by going to the following website and type in your zip code and search for local events.  These events go by different names - "health care discussion group," health issues round table," etc. - and should be open to the public.

http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/search_simple?source=sidenav

Many of these meetings are being held in private homes. These meetings are NOT the time for demonstrations. They represent an opportunity for local pro-lifers, especially community leaders and medical professionals to have civilized discussions and influence what is fed back to the Obama team.

We would love to receive reports of the meetings you attend.

News and Commentary

We received news that Arizona’s state Board of Nursing recently voted to allow nurse- practitioners to perform suction aspiration abortions. Planned Parenthood in Arizona supports this and, it was revealed, PP has had nurse-practitioners committing abortions in Arizona for many years.

At a Tucson PP facility, Mary Andrews had been performing illegal aspiration abortions on preborn babies as old as 16 weeks since 2001. The state Board of Nursing chose to "impose no penalty, saying that they never before ruled that second-trimester abortions should not be done by nurse practitioners." Thus Andrews has not been held accountable for her previous illegal activity and the only restriction now for Arizona nurse-practitioners is that they are prohibited from committing abortions beyond the 13th week of pregnancy.

Planned Parenthood is being sued by the parents of a 14 year old girl after PP failed to notify the parents of their daughter’s pregnancy. The father of the aborted child was 21, and she claims he coerced her into getting an abortion. Planned Parenthood is required to both notify parents in Ohio before their daughter can have an abortion, and to report any instances of minors having an abortion, in case it's an instance of statutory rape (which it was).
